16 to 19 Tuition Fund Statement
The purpose of this statement is to set out how Valley College utilised its 16 to 19 tuition fund allocation to support learners who may have had their learning disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The additional funding made available to the college was used to support the provision of targeted small group tuition for specific cohorts specifically in Literacy, Numeracy, Employability skills and Pastoral support. The learners were assessed by staff as requiring intervention in order to ‘catch-up’ following disruption to their learning caused by the restrictions of the Coronavirus pandemic. This highly targeted intervention served to address the attainment shortfall of these learners with Special Educational Need and Disabilities.
What is the 16-19 Tuition Fund?
The 16-19 tuition fund was ring-fenced funding for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 institutions who received annual funding allocations from the ESFA for the provision of 16 to 19 education, to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronovirus (COVID 19). The fund was used for small group and 1:1 tuition in English, Maths and vocational learning for 16 to 19-year-old learners and those learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including those aged 19 to 24 years. This tuition was in addition to the planned study programme hours.
The College was committed to ensuring the tuition fund was used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:
- Produced the statement setting out how the fund was used to support the most disadvantaged learners and publishing this guidance on the College website
- Recorded the use of the fund, including references to individual learners who received support, the needs of those learners, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retained the evidence of the tuition provided and demonstrated the impact of the support provided
- Delivered the extra tuition and spent the allocated funds in the academic year 2023/24
- Notified the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the Fund for it to be reclaimed
