Hello and welcome to Valley College. I am delighted to be Head of College and extremely proud of our learners, staff, advocates and college community in enabling our young people to ‘Prepare for Adulthood, Citizenship and Employment.’

Having worked within the wider Trust for 15 years, my journey as Head of College began in March 2020. Our ambition is to ensure all our learners gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy independent lives, and to become informed, active and responsible citizens in society.

Beginning college life can be scary as our learners settle in to their new groups, but our dedicated staff team will get to know each and every one, recognising their strengths, aspirations and understanding areas for development. Our teaching teams work extremely hard to ensure that every young person is challenged according to their ability. Learners at Valley College are treated as individuals and the curriculum is carefully balanced to meet the needs of the whole young person. Key to this is listening to our learners and advocates. We want to ensure their future aspirations are achieved.

Learners are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum contributing fully to the life of the college and their communities. In doing so, learners develop in recognising their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.  They reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing into adulthood.

A typical week at Valley College is full of laughter and fun, learning new skills and accessing our community. We cover many sessions to ensure they are prepared for adult life as much as possible when they leave. Our goal is to ensure all learners leave with relevant qualifications (if appropriate) and gain their desired aspiration destination. We work together with our learners to increase their independence, so they can take more control over their lives.

Valley College is a friendly place where learners can develop interests and gradually gain the skills and confidence they need to move on to the next stage of their lives and realise their dreams in the safest way possible.

Best wishes
